The Pivoters story

Hi, I’m Scott Siff, the founder of Pivoters. I wanted to share with you why
I care so much about Pivoters.

The Idea

The original idea for Pivoters began when my own dad, in his 70s, wanted to shift jobs, and asked me to help him. I figured that would be easy. My dad happens to be one of the most energetic and capable people I've ever known. Any employer would be lucky to find him.

Sadly, I quickly realized that finding a job for someone 55 and older was nearly impossible. Existing job boards focus on people in their 20s and 30s, and they mostly generate a flood of completely mismatched jobs. I was stunned.

The Hidden Opportunity

As I dug more into the issue, I learned that the US is facing a huge workforce crunch, because immigration and birth rates have fallen sharply. We desperately need workers.

At the same time, the country has over 100 million people 55 and over, most of whom need to work for financial reasons and want to work for the longevity, health, and social benefits of work.

I kept asking myself: Why aren’t these talent-starved employers and these experienced and ready workers finding each other?

More Than Just a New Job Board

What we needed was a new kind of job platform that would focus on this exact problem, and would do so using the latest technology to make it super simple and efficient.

But that was the easy part. The harder part is changing people’s perceptions. We need employers to know that workers 55+ bring more experience, reliability, resilience, loyalty, and collegiality to their jobs than any other age group. And we need people 55+ to know how highly in demand they are.

Pivoters Is Born

More than just a symbolic first step was to find a name for these workers that captures their energy and dynamism, something better than “older workers.” Ideally it would be a name that also captures the culture change we are working on.

It didn’t take us long to hit upon the perfect name.

Welcome to Pivoters!
